  • Well it is back to training for this stargazer, yep I am off to Kokoda again. Just need to get some details and have my leave approved but I am sure that will not be a issue.  Funny I have done it once and yet I am a little nervous, guess some nerves are good for you.

As for the issue at work, well it has got very nasty, I have had a conflict mediation session with the company director, was not a pleasant 5 hours. However I am now officially out of it and I keep my job.  I do think though that the Management now know that the Manager involved has done wrong and they may do something about it.

  • Where does the time go, it has been 13 months since my Kokoda trek, and I am still in awe of it.  This year 4 trekkers have died trying to hike it, countless have been air lifted out, 9 died in a plane crash taking them to Kododa to start the trek. I would love to go back and have another go at it.

As for work, well I am in the middle of a fight with senior management over a sexual harassment incident. Management are not taking it seriously enough and refuse to hear the female workers version, her senior manager who harassed her looks like he will get away it and I am prepared to lose my job if no justice is done. They are scaring her and trying to get her to forget and move on and work with this guy agian! To me it looks like boys looking after the boys and it is so wrong! I am on leave at the moment but this has been taking up alot of time!

  • Well Maggie has been adopted out, she left with her new family on Saturday night. Julie and I have not stopped crying since!   We know it is the best thing for her, our other two dogs and for me and Julie, but we miss her so much.  It was the hardest decision I have had to make, after having Maggie for just over 4 months, she has placed her paw prints in my heart  However we really need to think of Milly, she is our 13 year old and she was stressed having Maggie there.  We want to make sure Milly’s last few years are comfortable and stress free, so it had to be, but it does hurt!

We have a few emails from Maggie’s new family and some pics, she has settled in well and is enjoying have 6 kids to play with, as well as a new boyfriend Frank the pug, who has taken to Maggie.

  • Things are little tough at the moment, I am trying to come off my anti depressants, have cut it down to half of my normal dosage and my head is feeling it

Also Julie and I struggling with having Maggie, our 3rd dog.  We do love her and she is very cute, however after 4 months Milly our oldest (13) still seems to be very put out by having a 3rd dog, and we can tell she in not happy.  One of them has been peeing in the house, all 3 are house trained and know how to use the doggy door so it is not a training thing.

We talked to our vet and he thinks that Maggie is trying to be the dominate one by leaving her scent. And now we think the stress of having Maggie, as well as her age is making Milly incontinent and then Maggie is peeing over the same area on the carpet, lucky we have good anti stain carpet!

So now we are looking at adopting Maggie out, we have a family with 6 kids, a cat named Pauly and pug named Frank who are very interested in giving Maggie a forever home.  We will meet these people on Sunday and make a decision, a decision that is going to be extremely difficult and will cause more tears for both Julie and I

This week has been tough, also at work, I have had to put up with the lady at work who can be very grumpy. The other staff went to our other branch for 3 days for stocktake.  This lady came in Monday morning so grumpy you could cut the air with a knife!  I have had to put up with mood swings all week, and today with the others back I have decided to take the day off .

On a better note, I am taking Julie and her mum to see Busting Out at The Athenaeum Theatre on Saturday, the review have been good and it is meant to be very funny, so it should put a smile on my dial!

Ok, well that is for me for now, take care all who read this.

*****UPDATE***** the other 3 staff have decided to spend another day at the other site, so now I have to go into the office, nice of my boss to call me and let me know!!!!!  UGH

  • ***UPDATE*** another Australian has died on the Kokoda Track, a 26 year male from NSW, the cause of death is unknown at this stage, but it sounds like he may have fallen.  As I have said it is a dangerous place and trekkers really need to keep focused when they are in the most dangerous parts of the track, on step wrong and down you go. My thoughts and prayers are with both families of those two people who have lost their lives.

There was some sad news in the paper yesterday.  A 36 year old Australian woman died on the Kokoda Track, she was only 2 days into the trek.  The report says she died from dehydration, she woke and was felling dizzy and after starting off hiking, she collapsed and died.  Her name was Samantha Killen, married with two kids and she was attempting the Kokoda in memory of her grandfather who fought there.  She was hoping to make it too Isurava for ANZAC Day.

Last year when I did it, on the first day I collapsed after feeling very dizzy, I had to rest for about 20 minutes and the porters carried some of my gear for the rest of that day. I am no doctor but I feel something else must have been wrong with her, I guess we will find out when her body is returned to Australia. A very sad story either way.

I am still hoping to get back there next year and do it again, and I have also applied to be a guide on it. It is a extremely hard and at times dangerous place, but it is also a beautiful place and the natives of the area are very nice people.
